Thought on Module

The module of "Child Play", I find myself incredibly fascinated by the profound impact of play on early childhood education. It's not just about fun and games; it's a critical lens through which we understand how children learn, develop, and navigate the world. The module delves into the various types of play – from the imaginative realms of pretend play to the problem-solving challenges of construction play. Each offers unique opportunities for cognitive, social, emotional, and physical growth. We explore how play fosters creativity, critical thinking, and communication skills, equipping children with essential tools for future success.

One of the most compelling aspects is the role of the educator. We learn to create enriching play environments, provide appropriate scaffolding, and observe children's interactions to understand their individual needs and interests. It's about fostering a sense of wonder and curiosity, encouraging exploration, and allowing children to take the lead in their learning journey.

This module also emphasizes the importance of play in promoting social-emotional development. Through play, children learn to negotiate, cooperate, and resolve conflicts, building essential skills for forming relationships and navigating social situations. It's a powerful reminder of the holistic approach to education, where play isn't just a break from learning, but the very foundation upon which it is built.

Takeaway Message

Enriching Play Environment

In today's class, madam took us through an enriching play environment and its importance. Before going to the main lesson, mam made us write our own autobiography just by taking one random item from our desk that we were seated. In fact, this was one of the most engaging and brain-wracking activities to start a lesson.

After a quick activity, we went to the main topic that is enriching play environment and the things I have learned are creating an enriching play environment is essential for children's development. It's about providing spaces that stimulate curiosity, encourage exploration, and foster creativity. This can involve a variety of elements, from natural materials like wood and stones to colourful art supplies and open-ended toys.

A well-designed play environment considers different learning styles and interests. It offers opportunities for both individual and group activities, allowing children to engage in imaginative play, problem-solving, and social interaction. Furthermore, it should be a safe and inclusive space, free from hazards and accessible to all children.

Ultimately, an enriching play environment nurtures a child's innate desire to learn and grow, supporting their cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development.

Overall, the class was effective and I must say I have learned something on enriching play environment.

Meta Moment

Play-Based Learning Environment

On 27th of March, madam took us through a play-based learning which emphasised on creating an efficient play environment. This topic gave us an opportunity to create our own master plan on play environment and that is where I found it meaningful. I could design my own play environment including both the outdoor and indoor play designs. I had freedom to choose the designs myself and I also had freedom to place whatever play materials I wanted to place.

We as a class watched several videos highlighting on importance of early childhood where the early stage of children is always a know age they learn and discover things. From those videos I learnt that learning and giving choice to the children can bring a impactful learning to themselves.

I also knew several benefits of outdoor plays in which it says that the outdoor play enhances team building, promotes motor skills, and fosters hands on activities. And I even knew the principles that support learning based on play and I knew that nature plays a crucial role. Colors generate interest, texture adds depth, and elements heighten ambience.

Choedey’s Takeaway

Meta-Moment 1

I didn’t had any idea about the module when madam first came to the hall. I was excited as always to know what actually the was. Having heard what the module is about, I felt that this module will be fun and easy at the same time. I thought it will definitely have a lot of fun throughout the semester.

As expected, the introduction of the module itself was fascinating. It was the first ever experience of making a huge circle in the hall. All we did in the past was sitting and listening to the tutor and sometimes do small presentations. The way my tutor introduced the module will remain in my heart forever. No one has ever made me take myself back to 2000s and reminisce my childhood memories.

Everyone in the hall started telling their favourite childhood play and it was obvious that I had to tell one as well. Having made to tell one, I had to take myself back in past and remember the most favourite play of mine. I really enjoyed that circle game and I am thankful to my tutor for making me think what has happened in the past when I was a kid.

To tell some of the benefits about the lesson, I really liked the strategy of introducing a module like this. I took myself quickly towards the future and thought, I will use this strategy in my classroom. I can customise the ideas and incorporate the idea of my tutor. It will not only help me know the names of my children, but also it will help me recognise or identify their socio- cultural background silently. I found really useful.

On the other hand, I felt like this kind of moment will help anyone ring a bell to their brain because, it is rare moment. We will never get a time to sit and think about our childhood memories unless we are not given an avenue. We will be busy taking care of the present and planning the future ahead of us. So, we as a human being we must need this kind of moments to give ourselves a good time and take ourselves to beautiful childhood memories.

The World I Imagined

The Utmost Joy of “Role Playing”

I remember playing a lot of childhood plays and among all those plays, the most memorable one is a ‘role play’. I ain’t kidding, this play was always fun and kept me engaged. The most special thing about the role play was that we could become any profession we wish to be in our own imaginary world. This kinda shocks me because we were much ready about the future and it really makes us feel like we will be a responsible kid in the future.

We are not only responsible but also we were aware of what a dignity of labour means. We came way far even in the childhood. Do you know what? I used to be really excited and happy at the same time because I could become any job I wanted. I can become a doctor today and the other day I tell my friends that I want to be a mother, and the next day I would choose to be a shopkeeper.

This part was always fun and sometimes we would fight over the different profession and we wouldn’t talk for few minutes! We would just arrange our toys according to what kind of job we choose. That’s what I meant that this role play is engaging because we would not know the time running. We will be engaged in searching for different materials that we would need. Sometimes, it will be dusk, playing hard.

I believe that no play would make us emotionally connected, physically engaged , and socially strong. It could have been a nonsense but the meaning that holds was not at all just a play for us. I just loving taking myself to old times.

At times, I wish I could go back in time and play this game one more time. Dear time, please take me back and give me one more chance to get this joy of play for at least one time.
